TATTOO AFTERCARE

TATTOO AFTERCARE:

Tattoo aftercare is very important to the health of your tattoo. Aftercare can be different for everyone, but Hymns & Curses is happy to work with our customers to help them understand what will happen and how to handle special circumstances. If you have any issues please feel free to call our shop and ask questions.

The finished result of your tattoo is dependent on the care that it receives from YOU the 1st few weeks. Follow these steps carefully for healing your tattoo & you should have no problems:

• Wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap.
• Remove the bandage, dressing or wrap after 1-2 hours.
• Dilute unscented anti-bacterial soap or unscented castille soap to loose suds and gently wash your tattoo, then rinse with warm water. (No bar soap!)
• Pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry completely.
• Allow your tattoo to breath for the first 48 hours. Afterward use a slightly more substantial skin care such as A&D, Lubriderm, or Aquaphor. For the remainder of the 8 weeks, use any unscented lotion. Be sparing. Less is more.

PLEASE AVOID:

• Working out for the first 48 hours after getting tattooed.
• Submerging your fresh tattoo in water (baths, hot tubs, lakes, etc.) for one month.
• Getting your tattoo sweaty for 2 weeks.
• Wearing tight or restrictive clothing (spandex, thermals, vinyl) over the tattoo for 2 weeks.
• Allowing pets to have direct contact with the tattoo for 2 weeks.
• Picking or scratching your tattoo.
• Direct sun exposure on your tattoo for 3 weeks. After that please wear sunscreen.

OTHER TIPS:

• Avoid products with any fragrances or harsh chemicals.
• Avoid products that will clog your pores.
• Do not attempt to re-bandage your tattoo.
• Air drying is important in the healing process.
• Scratching or picking your tattoo can cause scarring.
• Wear loose fitting clothing.

If you have any questions about your new tattoo, feel free to call or stop by the shop. We are always happy to address your questions.
