MCA FAQ

What does MCA / Collagen Therapy do?

MCA is a form of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) which is a great treatment for improving the appearance of scars and burns. It is a medical treatment using tattoo needles causing more precise and targeted trauma to the scarred area, creating small channels to allow for scar repair serums to be absorbed in to the cells. This aids in the production of melanin (skin pigment), collagen, and elastin to flatten, smooth, shrink and re-pigment scar tissue. In many skin types (especially darker skin types) needling stimulates natural repigmentation of stretch marks without the need for ink. This process aims to shrink and flatten stretch marks and scars to make them less noticeable. Please note that it is not possible to completely get rid of stretch marks or scars, but it is possible to improve their appearance and make them less noticeable.

Can all scars be treated with MCA needling?

Keloid scars can’t be treated and anyone with a history of keloids will have to discuss treatment first with the practitioner. Those who are prone to hyperpigmentation or Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation will also need to discuss risks before treatment and have a test area done first. All other kinds of scars such as acne scars, surgical scars, injury scars, breast uplift scars, tummy tuck scars, and stretch marks can be treated. Scars need to be at least 18 months old before they can be treated.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone responds differently to treatment so it is not possible to predict any results or how many sessions. Some clients have an amazing result after 1 session. Others may need 3-8 depending on the severity of the scarring and the client’s skin response. Some may not see any significant improvement. We find that with darker skin types, stretch marks re-pigment naturally very well after one or two sessions of needling. MCA can be very effective in smoothing and softening scars after only just one session, although everyone is different so we can’t predict the result.

How much will it cost?

That depends on the size of the restoration. You will be given a quote once you meet with the artist and go over the details of what you want.

Deposit Policy?

It is our policy to collect a deposit when booking an appointment. We accept deposits via cash or CashApp and the amount of the deposit required is decided upon by the individual artist, usually $20 to $50. Artists carefully schedule and book their appointments based on blocks of time. If you do not show for your appointment, they often do not have adequate time to fill your vacancy and it hurts them. Deposits serve as a good faith gesture to hold your appointment and to compensate the artist for drawing time if you fail to show for your appointment time. Deposits are NEVER refundable. If less than 48 notice is given for a cancellation, you lose your deposit and must leave another deposit if you wish to reschedule. If you cancel your appointment with more than 48 hours notice, you may apply your deposit towards your rescheduled appointment. We NEVER under any circumstances will refund a deposit. We are sorry if this policy causes any inconvenience but is necessary to protect the interests of our artists.

How can I pay for your services?

We accept Cash. We also accept CashApp and ApplePay. However, any form of payment other than cash is subject to processing fees.
